A really nice collection of beautiful music. The mix isn't flawless, compared to the later CDs released by Babak Shayan, but that is to be expected, as this was his second mix CD. I really enjoyed listening to the CD, although I admit its not in my favourite list. Tracks that stand out for me are:

This is firmly one of my favourites. I love every track, especially Level Vibes. That track really gets me going, the powerful drums mixed with really nice synths. This is one of the gems in the Plastic City crown.

If there is such a thing as a subgenre of tech-house, than this would be it. Now it should go with out saying, that this is tech house foremost. This CD is very deep, dark, spooky, rich, and DUBBY. More so than any other TLB jr. before. The basslines are simple, and continueous with background bongos, and other subtle, spacey sounds that work their way deep into your brain like a cerebral viruse. The Beauty of this music is the simplicity of the underlying beat, tinged with haunting, non-verbal, male and female vocals and other classic deep house sounds, that make it sound soooo rich, which is mischiefiously created with the same sick, passionate love that Dr. Frankenstein has for his creation. This music is made for creating an underground, EROTIC atmosphere. This music is also made for a dimly lit, chill house party for all your freinds in low places, and is yet made for some serious grinding on the dance floor. This CD is an original, timeless classic and is NOT a compilation of some songs you have heard before in the past.

Now the regulation has moved behind the location. From "Maybe. Plastic City" to "Plastic City. Maybe". The breath of a new generation merges with the breath of the past and gives new life to the movement of a new age. In the imaginations of generations arose new places, forms, parks, houses and pictures

TA teamwork of maturity and naive intuition. If "Maybe. Plastic City" was the age of the new beginning, then "Plastic City. Maybe" is a document of the era between becoming and demise.

Meanwhile, "Plastic City. Maybe." is the platform for artists of five continents. The town has grown, more internationally. Beside the well known citizens like "The Timewriter", "Terry Lee Brown Junior" or "The Mulder", many new interesting faces romp around in the bars of the town. For example, Brazilian Gui Boratto and Portuguese Luis Novo (aka Bioground), who firstly released in 2005 at Plastic City. With them, a few more warm sunrays flood over the streets and places of the town. The thermometer is rising!

Four "Pastic City” areas are on the way to define, to form and to develop a new sound of "house music" in their productions as the tradition of the label has approved it. The record combines new and exclusive tracks from artists like Soda Inc., Bioground, The Kelly Project, The Timewriter, Morgan Page, Terry Lee Brown Junior, Pete Moss, Babak Shayan, The Mulder and Jean Thibault. The whole album is mixed by Babak Shayan.

Had this post all drafted out in my head while I was going home (took a bloody long time), but then High Contrast's album came on my mp3 player, and erased all my negative thoughts with Racing Green. So, instead of a ranting on about how unfair life is, I am going to post the rest of the music that I have uploaded last night. However. I am still fed up with my flat and the state it is in.

Clubbier than ever and loaded with pure energy, Jean F Cochois, aka The Timewriter, presents his fourth album on Plastic City: “PAINTBOX”.



This album is driving, hypnotic, liberating, uplifting and most of all, intense. TechHouse at its finest. Equipped with extreme rolling drive with a little added extra Heart and Soul and well-dosed in high quality vocals, this album provides a fascinating diversity and range of this musical genre. On “Love Is Beautiful”, the album’s first single, and “Room of a Million Rainbows”, Jean F himself sings the vocals. He is also delighted with the appearance of two top class vocalists, Theresa Baltimore and Jimmie Wilson.

With this longplayer, Jean F once more underlines his outstanding position on the international House scene. In exemplary fashion, he shows his feeling for grooves, sounds and vocals that have made him into the highly esteemed and world-wide respected artist he is today. As in all of his albums, one notices a certain energy-loaded connectivity between the tracks, a red line if you like, that helps tie each differently coloured song into something of a final bigger picture.

He came up with the title for the album during an all-night painting and music session and a large amount of good wine in the apartment of his girlfriend in Sundbyberg, a suburb of Stockholm. The stereo was playing some at the time still unfinished song ideas. Whilst she was painting and every now and then opening her art box containing a wide assortment of acrylics and oils, he was playing around with some ideas and lyrics. The parallel between the diversity of different combinations of colours and sounds and their mutual way of giving inspiration fascinated him. And so the title was found.

The extraordinary cover for the album Paintbox was designed by the art duo Herakut. A sprayed portrait of The Timewriter can be partly seen on the front cover. The booklet inside unfolds his complete picture, making the album instantly recognisable.



Since his debut 12”, “Did My Time” from 1995, and his debut album “Letters From The Jester” from 1996, he convinced and thrilled both the public and the media, especially in Great Britain and in the USA. This is underlined by interviews in Britain’s Muzik Magazine and America’s Billboard magazine. His unique production style is characterised by the enormous dense and atmospheric sound that one so clearly can distinguish from other writer/producers in the same field. Since the mid 1990’s, this sound was an essential contribution to what later became the established musical sub-genre TechHouse. His unmistakeable trademark style goes far beyond the dance floors and is based on sophisticated musicality and profound depth. As Muzik Magazine wrote: “This is real 21st century soul music, avoid of clichés, overflowing with magic”.



Not only as a producer, but also as a remixer, Jean F Cochois has earned great respect. Amongst his many remixes he has worked for artists such as the ex-Kraftwerk member Wolfgang Flür (Yamo), Mike Oldfield, Yello, Faithless and Boy George to name a few. As a highly sought after DJ, he travels the world and plays in places such as New York, London, Sweden, Denmark, Canada, Mexico, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Hungary and Russia. As resident DJ he played in Sven Väth’s Cocoon Club and now holds a monthly residency in Budapest.
